Merger Investigations

We offer the facility to identify, approach and introduce suitable merger partners for our clients, if desired.

Initially, we would discuss our client's specific criteria for a merger partner and take a merger brief, considering factors such as:

  • Strategic vision
  • Legal expertise
  • Profitability
  • Financial economies
  • Firm reputation
  • International reach
  • Client conflicts/synergies
Once we have compiled a list of potential merger targets, it is submitted to the client to remove any targets that may already have been approached or which the client otherwise deems to be inappropriate.

We then approach the relevant managing partner/chief executive of a target firm on a confidential basis on our client's behalf to ascertain if there is any interest at that firm in a potential merger while keeping our client's identity confidential. If appropriate, we will proceed to facilitate an introduction between our client and the potential merger target and will advise (as required) throughout the merger negotiations.

The process can take between 3 and 18 months from the initial instruction, depending on various factors including, in particular, the size of practice.
